The City
Council are well aware of the need for additional school places for
Primary children in Hampton.
Local Authorities are no longer allowed to be the provider of
schools but are now ‘commissioners’ of new schools. In order to do
this we have to hold a ‘school competition’ and this process was
launched with a public meeting on Wednesday 2 February 2011.
This meeting was to seek the input from the local community as
to what they would like a new school to be like – that is, what
elements need to be incorporated, rather than at this stage the
design of the school.
The City Council then invited interested parties to submit their
proposals for the running of the new school.
The closing date for proposals to be submitted was 3 September
2011. Two bids were received, from the Diocese of Ely and
from CfBT. There is now a six week consultation period during
which anyone can make comments on or object to the proposals by
sending their representations before 5.00 pm on 2 November 2011

A public meeting is being held at 7.00 pm on 28 September at
Hampton Hargate Primary School, Hargate Way, Hampton Hargate,
Peterborough PE7 8BF. At this meeting the bidders will
present their proposals and there will be an update on the progress
of the school design.

bids, a brochure summarising them and the consultation process
are attached, together with an elevation plan.
