Peterborough children's film awards

You may wonder what film-making has to do with reading and writing.  Showing films in the classroom helps to motivate children to write so we decided to go one step further and have the children make the films themselves.

Making films encourages children to talk, write and plan, It helps them to explore their imaginations. They have to think about expressing relationships, emotions and stories through words and pictures. Before making the films the children design storyboards to show on paper what happens and when. The enjoyment that the children get from making films has helped to make them more interested in exploring and understanding other stories. The Peterborough children's film awards have been taking place since 2006. View the 2010 Film Awards categories here.
