Chairs

The governor services team offers a wide range of support to both newly appointed and more experienced chairs.

Induction session for new chairs

This session, held once a year in the Autumn term, is designed to support governors who are new to the role of chair. It covers the role of the chair and the relationship between the chair, head and other governors. It also offers the opportunity to network with other newly appointed chairs.

Taking the chair

A training and development programme commissioned by Department for Education. This three-module, practical programme aims to explore the skills required to lead and manage the work of a governing body. The programme uses a variety of learning approaches and emphasises the practical application of knowledge and skills

Chairs update

This newsletter is sent directly to all chairs twice a term. It details local and national news items and highlights all issues requiring action by the governing body.

Each term headteachers, chairs and other interested governors are invited to attend a topical briefing. The agenda reflects the key issues facing the education service in the term ahead and equips headteachers and chairs with information they will need for the forthcoming terms' governing body business.

Mentoring

The governor services team can arrange for an experienced chair to give help and support to a newly appointed chair. Please contact the team for further details.
