Governor development and support programme 2011/2012
As part of our commitment to provide continuous improvement in
the quality of our support to Peterborough governors, we are
pleased to offer the programme in collaboration with Cambridgeshire
County Council's governor support service. Our collaboration with
Cambridgeshire has allowed us to extend our team of trainers and
increase our ability to provide individual governing body training,
as well as extending the core programme. It also provides
access to Cambridgeshire courses for Peterborough governors, a
copy of the Cambridgeshire programme is held by your clerk.

DfE national training programme for new governors
Our introductory course for new governors includes materials
based on the DfES national training programme for new governors.
The programme aims to help new governors to contribute as
effectively and as quickly as possible in supporting their schools
to raise standards of educational achievement. The course was
updated in August 2008 and continues to be the most popular session
in the annual programme. Longer-serving governors who have never
attended this training will also find this session valuable.
DfE national training programme for new clerks
The purpose of the course is to raise the status
and competencies of clerks so that they may make a significant
contribution to supporting governing bodies and raising standards
in schools.
An induction session for new chairs
The session is designed to support governors who
are new to the role of the chair. The session aims to provide new
chairs with initial support to help them face the challenges
involved in the governing body's role. It can be used as an
introductory session to 'Taking the Chair' the DfES
national development programme for chairs.
Taking the chair
This 3-module development programme for chairs,
vice-chairs and chairs of committees is aimed at prospective and
new chairs who wish to develop their confidence and skills, and
experienced chairs who are keen to review their effectiveness in
the role.
