Parent governors
Parent governors are elected by and from the parents of
registered pupils at the school. The school will advise parents
when there are vacancies or you can contact your child's school if
our vacancy list shows parent vacancies.
Staff governors
Teacher governors are elected by and from the teaching staff at
the school. The school can advise when the next vacancy will arise.
The headteacher may choose whether or not to be a governor. Support
staff governors are elected by and from the non-teaching staff
employed at the school. The school can advise when the next vacancy
will arise.
Authority governors
These appointments are made by the local authority and may
reflect the local political balance. Nominations are put forward by
the school governing body and local political parties. If you would

Community governors
These appointments are made by the governing body to enable the
governing body to add specific areas of expertise especially from
local businesses. If you are interested in a specific school,
please contact them directly. Otherwise, please contact the
Governor
development team for further information on current
vacancies and an application form.
Foundation governors
These appointments are made at denominational or foundation
schools with a trust deed to represent the foundation body.
Governors are, for instance, appointed to preserve and develop the
religious character of the school. Contact the local Diocesan
Office (for Church of England Schools) or the East Anglian Diocesan
Schools Commission (for Roman Catholic Schools) to register you
interest.
Partnership governors
These appointments are made at foundation schools to represent
the local community and can include parents of children at the
school. Foundation Schools can advise when the next vacancy will
occur and can register interests.
