To qualify for post 16 transport your child must live in the
Peterborough City Council area and meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled on a full-time course course i.e. a minimum fifteen
(15) taught hours per week at sixth form centres either in school
or college; or twelve (12) hours if the course is in school or
college full time prospectus.
- Be under the age of nineteen at the beginning of the
educational year, i.e. by 31 August, or continuing a course started
whilst aged under 19.
- Not be receiving an award under the terms of the Student
Support (loans & fees) awards.
the distance between the family home and the nearest
appropriate centre must be five (5) miles or over (for
students paying the subsidy) or three miles or over (for students
in receipt of accepted benefits) measured by the shortest unimpeded
walking route, and must not exceed 30 miles.
Free transport is available for your child if
she/he meets the criteria listed above and:
· Your family is receiving Income Support,
Income Based Job Seekers Allowance, Income-related Employment
Support or Pension Credit (proof of benefit is required with the
application).
or
· She/he has a brother or sister for whom
you are paying a contribution for transport for post 16 transport
(only one contribution is made per family).

Subsidised transport
Only one contribution is made per family. This contribution will
normally apply to the eldest child. Families who have a
child/children at college as well as at a denominational school
will be asked to pay the higher post 16 contribution.
College transport
If you are not eligible for subsidised or free transport you may
be able to purchase a seat on transport that is arranged by the
college. Please enquire at your college reception or student
services for more information.
