The document will be updated annually and reproduced in full
every three years, as it will be used to inform future policy
decisions about childcare provision in Peterborough. This
assessment investigates whether existing childcare provision is
sufficient to meet the needs of parents and carers throughout
Peterborough, and aims to identify any gaps in the market by
matching information about the supply of childcare to the demand
for it. The assessment brings together information from key
stakeholders to draw conclusions about Peterborough's childcare
market on both a city wide and more localised level.
The assessment includes information gathered from
parents/carers, children, childcare providers, employers, hard to
reach and minority groups and JobCentre Plus. By comparing the
supply of, and demand for childcare and by consulting with various
stakeholders, the following potential gaps in the childcare market
have been addressed:
- Age gaps childcare appropriate for children of different
ages
- Type gaps the range of childcare types available
- Geographical gaps childcare in particular areas
- Specific needs gaps childcare to suit children with specific
needs
- Affordability gaps - childcare that is affordable to the
community
- Time gaps childcare that is available when needed
We will now begin to work towards addressing any gaps within the
childcare market which have been identified as a result of the
assessment.
