What is climate change?

Climate is the average weather experienced over a long period of time. Climate change is the significant alteration of climatic conditions. There is large scale consensus that human emissions of CO2, mostly through burning fossil fuels, is leading to changes in the atmosphere and consequently our climate.

For the UK this will mean hotter, drier summers, together with milder, wetter winters, and increased flood risk as sea levels rise.

CO2 and global warming

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a natural gas in the earth's atmosphere. It acts like glass in a greenhouse keeping the earth warm by trapping the sun's rays. If too much CO2 is produced through the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil it cannot be absorbed naturally. It remains in the atmosphere resulting in increased warming and climate change.

What is a carbon footprint?
