Book of remembrance

Our most popular memorial facility is the Book of Remembrance, which is the only permanent memorial available. This is located in the Book of Remembrance Room, adjacent to the main car park.

Book of remembrance example Details of the application procedure, and prices for an entry, are sent to the Applicant for Cremation (the person who signed the forms when arranging the funeral). For the first year, only the Applicant can apply and details are sent to them approximately two weeks after the funeral. Thereafter, other family members can submit an application.

Entries are normally on the date of death; however, any other date may be selected, for example a birthday or wedding anniversary. The year is not specified unless included in the inscription. The entry is a permanent memorial, displayed annually on the chosen date.

Viewing is from inside the Book of Remembrance Room from 9am to 5pm weekdays and 9am to 12.30pm weekends and bank holidays, and, thereafter, from outside the room, through the display windows, whilst the grounds are still open.

As an additional facility, entries can be viewed on the Electronic Book of Remembrance using a swipe card or can be viewed free of charge on the internet at www.scribesplus.co.uk/peterborough/

Memorial Vases in the Book of Remembrance Room

Where someone has chosen to have an inscription in the Book of Remembrance, they may request to have a memorial vase, adjacent to the Book of Remembrance, on the day the entry is displayed.

There are a maximum of six vases available each day between 9am and 4.30pm (12.30pm weekends and Bank Holidays). At 4.30pm (weekdays) the flower vases are transferred to a side wall where they remain until 4.30pm the following evening. The stand is then transferred to the Chapel to make space for the next day's vases.

When the Book of Remembrance Room is closed at weekends and Bank Holidays, the Books of Remembrance will be turned so that they can be viewed through the windows on the outside of the building. Vases will be available for public use on the outside of the Book of Remembrance Room and the reserved vases adjacent to the viewing windows.

As there may be more requests for vases than are available, they are allocated on a first come, first served basis and bookings can be made up to one month in advance; for example bookings for the 10th March will be taken from the 10th February. Bookings can only be made by telephone, or in person, by families who have inscriptions in the Book of Remembrance on the date requested.

Vases are not to be moved, or removed, from the Book of Remembrance room under any circumstances.

For those who are unsuccessful, a stand of unlabelled vases is available both inside and, when closed, outside the Book of Remembrance Room.

If you would like to request a vase reservation for the Book of Remembrance, please telelphone the Bereavement Services office or alternatively email crematorium@peterborough.gov.uk detailing the date that you wish to reserve the vase and the name of the deceased.

Please note that we can only guarantee that a vase has been reserved once you have received an emailed confirmation.
