When choosing cremation, it is important to consider what to do
with the remains. Some families decide to scatter them in a spot of
special significance to the deceased, and/or the family, or place
them at the Crematorium or in a family grave.
To assist with the decision, details of the various strewing
options are listed below although it is not necessary to make an
immediate decision about the final disposal of cremated remains. If
relatives are unsure about their requirements in this respect, then
the cremated remains can be retained free of charge at the
crematorium for up to three months from the date of the funeral. If
we are requested to retain the cremated remains for longer than the
initial period, please refer to our list of fees and charges.
Any decision that is made must be authorised by the Applicant
for Cremation (the person who signed the Form 1 - Application for
Cremation at the time of making the funeral arrangements). The
Applicant for Cremation should complete and sign the Authority for
the Disposal of Cremated Remains form and submit it to the
Bereavement Services Office.
If there is any uncertainty about the final resting place, it is
recommended that you retain the cremated remains at the
crematorium.
Please select one of the following options:
If you wish to place the cremated remains in a memorial at the
crematorium or bury the cremated remains in a cemetery please
contact the Bereavement Services Office.
