Projects working with Peterborough in bloom
During the year we complete a wide range of
projects which all help to make Peterborough a better place, these
include planting spring flowering bulbs, arranging litter picks,
creating floral displays and designing new gardens. Some of the
projects undertaken so far include:
Partnership work with HMP Peterborough

In 2008 Peterborough in Bloom began working with our local
prison to grow plants designed to brighten up parts of the city.
The scheme has gone from strength to strength and was promoted this
year during the Anglia in Bloom judging tour where the judges
visited a floral scheme designed by inmates. The flowers were
specifically designed and laid out to depict a bicycle representing
the city’s commitment to sustainability.
Cathedral Green Court
This year Peterborough in Bloom signed up pupils from
Longthorpe Primary to support the residents of Cathedral Green
Court brighten up their homes. The children successfully planted up
three large containers at the front of the court, parallel to
Crawthorn Road for residents and passers by alike to enjoy.
Everybody has been really pleased with the results so it looks like
we will get everybody digging again to add some winter
blooms.
Guildhall hanging basket competition
In 2008 we launched a competition to all
Peterborough schools asking them to design and plant
a hanging basket which we would then display on the
city's guildhall throughout the summer. There was a total of
14 baskets displayed all created by a different school. All baskets
were judged by the Mayor of Peterborough according
to the following criteria:
- Suitability for purpose
- Creativity
- Overall appearance
The winner was Fulbridge school with prizes
awarded to the top three baskets.
- 1st - Fulbridge school
- 2nd - Newborough school
- 3rd - Peterborough High school

Working with local brownies
The 28th Werrington Brownies have worked with
Peterborough in Bloom during 2007, 2008 and 2009, during this
time they have designed and planted 4 different containers in
prominent locations across the city. Last year they decided to
create a yellow and brown themed planter to compliment the Brownie
colours.
Southfields Junior School
Schools from across Peterborough work with the
campaign during the year. In 2008 Southfields Junior school kindly
agreed to meet the Anglia in Bloom Judges on route to perform their
play - the eight little pigs of sustainability. The play is an
excellent example of the hard work the school undertake to ensure
sustainability is truly embedded within their curriculum.
