Different types of elections

There are various different types of elections covering all levels of government.

Parish elections

Parish elections are to elect members of a Parish Council.  You can only vote if you are a resident in the relevant Parish.

Local elections

Local elections are used to elect town or City Councillors.  The next city council election for Peterborough is to be held in May 2012.

General elections

General elections or Parliamentary elections, are used to elect Members of Parliament (MPs).  Local candidates are elected to represent constituents when a general election is called.

European elections

European elections are held to elect Members of European Parliament (MEPs). The next European Elections are to be held in June 2014.
