What scrutiny can and cannot do

What scrutiny can do

  • Examine cabinet decisions or actions taken in connection with any of our services
  • Review and make recommendations to the cabinet or the council about any of our services
  • Consider matters affecting the well being of local communities
  • Review decisions made, but not yet implemented by the Cabinet (this is called ' Call in')
  • Provides an opportunity for members to encourage community involvement in the work of the Council.
  • Consider suggestions put forward by members of the public.

What scrutiny cannot do

  • Scrutiny is not a complaints system, there is a separate corporate complaints procedure for use by members of the public.
  • Consider issues where other appeal processes exist, e.g planning decisions, licensing, schools admissions.
