What scrutiny can and cannot do
What scrutiny can do
- Examine cabinet decisions or actions taken in connection with
any of our services
- Review and make recommendations to the cabinet or the council
about any of our services
- Consider matters affecting the well being of local
communities
- Review decisions made, but not yet implemented by the Cabinet
(this is called ' Call in')
- Provides an opportunity for members to encourage community
involvement in the work of the Council.
- Consider suggestions put forward by members of the
public.
What scrutiny cannot do
- Scrutiny is not a complaints system, there is a separate
corporate complaints procedure for use by members of the
public.
- Consider issues where other appeal processes exist, e.g
planning decisions, licensing, schools admissions.
