Independent Remuneration Panel

Peterborough City Council’s Independent Remuneration Panel makes recommendations to council on the allowances paid to elected members.

Do you have a thorough understanding of public life? Are you interested in local democracy? Do you have sound judgement skills and the ability to think independently?

Vacancies have arisen for up to four members of the panel with immediate effect. Applicants will need to show a capacity for independent thinking and sound judgement with applications particularly welcome from people who have experience of any of the following areas:

  • Public sector evaluator or other personnel professional
  • An academic/consultancy expert in a related field
  • A private or voluntary sector or union representative (not a city council employee)
  • A person of well-known public standing, such as from one of the local faith communities

The panel consists of up to four members and the usual term of office is 3-5 years. Panel members are expected to contribute their time freely, as a public service, although travelling expenses are paid.

The Chief Executive in conjunction with the political group leaders will make the final appointments. Interviews will be in October 2012 with the newly formed panel expected to meet in October 2012.
