Flexible working

What is flexible working?

Making the best use of the most appropriate workplace locations to enable council employees to do their work more effectively and deliver services that meet customer requirements and reduce the council's carbon footprint.

Key aims

The Transformational Government Agenda requires local authorities to ensure that services are focused on their customers. By rethinking the way employees work, we can save money and also make staff more mobile, delivering services to customers in a way that's convenient to them.

Key benefits

  • Reduction in our carbon footprint
  • Flexible delivery of services to customers and improved work/life balance for employees through flexible and mobile working arrangements
  • Less office space leading to reduced costs
  • Less administration leading to reduced costs and quicker processing times
  • Council officers able to complete inspections/deliver services on site and update their back offices remotely in real time
  • Increased personal security for field workers and better management systems.  Managers know where their staff are and what they're doing at any time.
