Procurement programme

We currently spend around £100 million on the procurement of services, works and goods each year. Effective procurement is seen as  key to meeting the changing needs of our customers and getting the best value for money.

What is procurement?

Procurement is the purchase of goods and services from another party e.g. stationery, energy or contracted out services such as building maintenance, security,  major IT systems and construction projects.

Key aims:

  • Improve the way procurement works, both corporately and in partneship with others
  • Re-negotiate current contracts, as appropriate, or tender for new contracts to ensure we get better value for money and have a clear and transparent process
  • Analyse and challenge our current purchasing trend to ensure taht we achieve customer satisfaction and  the best value in terms of cost and quality
  • Consider alternative ways of managing and delivering procurement projects in partnership with other organisations, both within Peterborough and other local government authorities in the surrounding region

Key benefits:

  • Significant reduction in our carbon footprint as procurement excellence reduces demand for consumable resources such as
    energy
  • Reduction in the number of deliveries to our premises
  • Better value for money: contract savings of over £2 million over a three year period
  • Improved relationships with suppliers
  • Fit for purpose products and services
  • Reduction in the time and money spent on procuring new contracts
