City council identifies £146,000 annual savings with
new stationery deal

3 April 2007

Peterborough City Council will save an estimated £146,000 a year by changing the way it buys it stationery and office supplies.

Instead of purchasing paper, pens, printer cartridges and other stationery and IT consumables from dozens of suppliers, the council has negotiated a new contract with Lyreco UK which will act as a one-stop-shop for all office supplies.

The council will also be eligible for a rebate of up to 6.5 per cent this year from the company for ordering on-line and processing all of its invoices electronically.

Councillor Stephen Goldspink, deputy leader of the council and Cabinet member for Efficiency and Business Improvement, said: "The new stationery contract is just one of a number of new initiatives introduced by our business transformation team to ensure everything the council does is achieved as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible."
