New post contract will save city council £119,000
each year

3 April 2007

Peterborough City Council has changed its second class postal supplier which will save the authority about £119,000 a year.

The council is now using UK Mail Ltd for its second class mail instead of Royal Mail.

Councillor Stephen Goldspink, deputy leader and Cabinet member for Efficiency and Business Improvement said: "Peterborough City Council has taken advantage of competition within the postal market to change its supplier and save money.

"This is another example of one of the new measures introduced by the business transformation team to improve efficiency and make cost-savings that do not impact on front-line services."

The UK Mail 2nd class service is a guaranteed three-day delivery service. The change of supplier will not affect deliveries into the council and UK Mail use Royal Mail to make the final delivery of the mail so there will be no adverse effect to Royal Mail staff.
