New Materials Recycling Facility (Ref: 08/01577/MMFUL)
18/04/2009

An application to convert the former Ray Smith Group building on Fengate into a new materials recycling facility (MRF) was submitted on 30 December 2008. The new facility will enable the city council to process even more recyclables and provide a new home for the award-winning WEEE Re-use (electrical appliances recycling plant).

Energy-from-Waste Facility (Ref: 09/00078/MMFUL)
18/04/2009

An energy-from-waste facility is being proposed for the site on Fourth Drove which is currently occupied by the city’s existing MRF. This facility will use residual waste (the materials left over after recycling has been completed) as a fuel to generate renewable energy. The planning application was submitted on 30 January 2009.

Lifecycle Assessment

A Lifecycle Assessment has been commissioned to determine the potential effect of the proposed energy-from-waste facility on its surroundings. This assessment has been undertaken using the Environment Agency’s Waste and Resources Assessment Tool for the Environment (WRATE) software, and includes conclusions about the facility’s likely impact on aspects such as air quality, water quality, traffic levels and visual impact.
