Full council formally adopts Waste 2020 strategy as the way forward
for Peterborough.
January 2008
Further Cabinet Member decision to take forward the Waste 2020
strategy is followed by the purchase of a site at Fengate next to
the current materials recycling facility.
April 2009
The Local Planning Authority, part of Peterborough City Council,
grants planning permission for the new materials recycling facility
and procurement begins for the energy-from-waste facility, the new
materials recycling facility and various operational services. The
old Members’ Waste and Recycling Working Group (previously an
advisory group) becomes the Members Waste and Recycling Task and
Finish Group and now has a scrutiny, overview and advisory remit.
The city council decides to adopt anaerobic digestion as the
preferred treatment for food waste.
May 2009
Potential partners are invited to an Open Day to discuss the
options for future delivery of the integrated waste management
facilities and services. Procurement starts for the anaerobic
digestion facility.
