The city council is constantly seeking new ways to increase the
range of materials that can be recycled. Currently
householders can place the following items in their green bins:
- Paper and cardboard
- Plastic bottles (wash, squash and tops off)
- Aerosols
- Fruit juice type cartons
- Drink and food cans made from aluminium and steel
- Glass bottles and jars (but not Pyrex-type heat-treated
cookware, window glass or drinking glasses)
Textiles should not be placed in green bins. Good quality
clothing should be taken to charity shops while other fabrics can
be taken to textile bring banks.
Brown bins should be used to recycle organic garden material
such as:
- Grass cuttings
- Leaves
- Shrubs
- Weeds and dead flowers
- Hedge trimmings and prunings
Using a home composting bin is great for converting vegetable
and fruit peelings, tea bags, coffee granules and egg shells into a
nutrient-rich soil improver for your garden. For more
