Even though Peterborough is aiming to achieve a recycling rate
of more than 65 per cent, there are some materials that will be
left over. This ‘residual’ waste has historically been dumped in
landfill sites. European legislation, combined with the fact that
landfill sites are fast filling up, means that this is no longer a
viable disposal option.
As a responsible local authority, Peterborough City Council has
been investigating other ways to cope with our residual waste in
the future.
