Project Beneficiaries

Visualising complex digital dataAuthorities at all levels – facilitates the achievement of E-governance objectives and EU 2020 Objectives such as the Digital Agenda.

Policy makers/elected representatives/decision makers – more effective policy development and policy implementation and improved inter-agency/cross-border communication.

Small to medium businesses – supports economic development and the creation of employment.

Citizens – facilitates inclusion/cohesion/stronger communities.

Project aims:

The overall aim of the project is to develop a new approach to accessing and using complex digital data, which will inform and impact upon current and future local, regional and European policy.

Project objectives:

  • To explore the barriers that policy makers, businesses and citizens face when trying to access, understand and use complex digital data held by local and regional authorities.
  • To share experience and good practice of existing digital data storage systems/formats/platforms (e.g. GIS), related strategies and policies and frameworks, at local, regional and EU levels (e.g. local and regional policies, INSPIRE and the European E-Governance Action Plan) and the accessibility and usability of data by community stakeholders.
  • To explore and overcome the legal and technical issues which constrain the development of new approaches, for example the need to agree a standard use of symbols, licensing issues and the need to ensure the quality, validity and security of data.
  • To pilot new approaches to the “visualisation” and publication of complex data, which would not require customised software and use free and widely accessible platforms.
  • To develop a common strategy/framework for local and regional authorities, which will impact upon and inform current and future policy.
