Planning Advice

In March 2010 the UK Government published Planning Policy Statement 5: Planning for the historic environment (PPS5) which replaces Planning Policy Guidance Notes 15: Planning and the Historic Environment (1994) and Planning Policy Guidance 16: Archaeology and Planning (1990). PPS 5 is supported by a Practice Guide. Excavations off Bretton Way

In line with PPS 5 Peterborough Archaeological Services advise the Council on all matters relating to the archaeological implications of land-use planning, both for strategic planning and for development control casework. The appointed archaeologist monitors all planning applications and provides specific advice as appropriate.

Peterborough Archaeological Services also provide advice to developers and other interested parties as appropriate, in order to ensure a proper understanding of the planning process, to secure the best possible protection for the archaeological resource and identify appropriate archaeological mitigation options, setting requirements and monitoring work.
