Article 4 Directions

These pages provide information and advice to owners and occupiers of properties which are the subject of a planning control known as an "Article 4 Direction".  Under current planning legislation householders have the right to make alterations to their property without planning permission.  This is called "Permitted Development".

An Article 4 Direction removes this right, so that certain types of alterations will require planning permission.  We have issued a number of Article 4 Directions to protect the appearance of properties and the character of an area.
