What is a Community Energy Challenge?
Energy is a controllable cost. In order to make changes it
can help to understand how and where your energy is being used. The
Community Energy Challenges do just that. Energy monitors are lent
to a number of residents across a community who will then use them
to highlight their household current energy usage.
The energy monitors used are simple, fun and highly
interactive display that helps users to monitor and improve their
energy performance. Located in the resident’s home, it enables
‘real time’ understanding of energy use. The challenge is to make
energy reductions and start seeing those savings with prizes
awarded for those making the biggest savings.
- Free loan of meter
- Use it and monitor energy
- Record energy and money saved
- Prizes for most energy saved
When do they start?
The first ever Community Energy Challenge launched in
Werrington in February 2010 with support from the newly established
Werrington Footprint group. The trial, in partnership with
Peterborough City Council’s Climate Change Team involved the
loan of an energy saving monitor to 60 households in Werrington
that have volunteered to maintain a weekly diary of energy
consumption with figures easily obtained from the monitor.Since
then they have been held in other communities inlcuding Glinton and
Peakirk. To register your interest to take part in such a challenge
