Affordable Housing

Peterborough City Council no longer owns or builds affordable homes.  Instead, the Housing Strategy team works closely with developers and housing associations in order to assist them to build new affordable homes or to acquire existing dwellings.

The Housing Strategy team works to enable the provision of new affordable housing, and influence what type of housing is built, in the following ways;

  • Through working with private housing developers and planning officers to ensure that affordable housing is built as part of new private housing developments
  • By supporting the applications for government grant that affordable housing providers make to fund new housing development
  • By providing funding to affordable housing providers directly from council funds

Between April 2007 and March 2011, the Housing Strategy team has worked closely with its key partners to enable over 1,750 new affordable homes to rent and buy in Peterborough. Facts and figures about the affordable housing enabled by the Housing Strategy team over the last year are available on the Affordable housing delivery page.
