Over the last couple of years the rate at which new houses have
been built across the country has slowed. This has mainly been the
result of the downturn in the economy, which has affected the
demand for new houses on the open market. This has led to less new
houses being built across many parts of the UK. However, in
Peterborough the delivery of affordable housing has continued at a
reasonable rate which is pleasing given the slowdown in other
areas.
Between April 2010 and March 2011;
- 713 new dwellings were built (705 net additional dwellings
after 8 losses)
- Of these dwellings, 324 were affordable homes thanks to
the successful relationship between the Housing Strategy team and
its partners.
- 107 of these affordable properties were built to ‘Lifetime
Homes’ standard. This means that they are fully adaptable so that
they continue to meet the needs of their inhabitants over
time.
- 12 of these 324 properties were built as wheelchair adapted
properties
- 10 market units were purchased by housing associations and
converted to an affordable property
- £15,288,496 in additional Homes and Communities Agency funding
was secured to finance new affordable housing in
Peterborough
