Supporting people programme

Helping you to live independently in your own home, supporting independence…...

What does the supporting people programme do?

The Supporting People Programme in Peterborough funds housing related support services to help vulnerable people live independently.

What is housing related support?

Housing related support includes:

  • Helping people claim benefits and fill in forms.
  • Supporting people to budget so that they can pay bills such as rent.
  • Helping to sort out utility services (water, gas, electricity supplies etc).
  • Providing advice and support to ensure homes are safe and secure such as identifying house repairs.
  • Helping people secure long term accommodation and resettle.
  • Signposting to other organisations who may be able to help.

How is housing related support provided?

Support is provided through different types of services:

  • Services provided within short term accommodation based services such as homeless hostels.
  • Support provided in peoples own homes regardless of where they live (floating support services).
  • A 24 hour community alarm scheme called Lifeline.
  • Long term accommodation based support such as sheltered housing or extra care schemes for older people.

Who can the supporting people programme help?

The Supporting People Programme provides housing related support to a number of different groups of vulnerable people.  Services are available to people over the age of 16 who have housing related support needs.

How much will the support cost me?

People who need housing related support and are eligible receive services free of charge.

Support plans

When receiving housing related support service users can work with a support worker to produce a support plan. The plan identifies someone’s needs and plans how to improve their ability to live independently.

How can I be sure I get a good service?

All services are monitored by the Supporting People Team to ensure that they meet good quality, high performance standards and value for money. To improve services we talk to service users and get their views.
