Letter of application

This is a personal statement and is central to your application.

Headteachers will scrutinise your letter to gain an insight into your commitment to and enthusiasm for teaching as a career and your ability to work closely with the wider school community. You will want to ensure that it conveys your understanding and knowledge of the theory and practice of education. It should include detail of:

  • Your Initial Teacher Training course, including any specialist knowledge and teaching experience;
  • Your educational philosophy, with specific reference to how you have applied this to your teaching practice. Give examples of how you have been able to assess pupils, monitor their progress within lessons and encourage their learning and development;
  • Transferable skills and experience, which demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria listed in the NQT person specification, where you do not have relevant work experience to offer evidence of this;
  • Your personal strengths;
  • A teaching strategy you have used to deliver an aspect of the curriculum successfully.
