British electric authority

Peterborough City Council began construction of an electricity generating station on Albert Place Meadow in 1898, which became operational on 19, December 1900. It was enlarged in the early 1920's but an additional generating station had to be built shortly afterwards. Following nationalisation, the generating stations became vested in the British Electrical Authority (BEA) from 1, April 1948. They then undertook a massive programme of reconstruction, building at Peterborough the power station that operated until the mid-1970's. The BEA became the Central Electrical Authority in 1955, then transferred its assets to the Central Electricity Generating Board from 1, January 1958.
