Insurance Committees were set up under the National Insurance
Act 1911 to administer health insurance. In 1948 they were replaced
by NHS Executive Councils, which administered insurance and GP
services. The Executive Councils were abolished in 1974. Executive
Council records are public records under the Public Records Act
1958.
