Our evening lecture programme

Over the last year we have started a series of entertaining and informative evening lectures on topics of general historical interest, conducted by local history lecturer Don Chiswell. Where possible the subjects have a connection to local history, and the talks are supported by relevant objects from the Museum's collections.

Talks

The talks take place on the second Thursday of the month at the Museum at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 for adults, £3 for children, students of OAPs. Tickets can be pre-booked via the Museum or bought on the night. The programme for the next few months is as follows:

‘Hannibal - more than just Elephants’
Talk by Don Chiswell

Wednesday 16 February at 7.30pm
‘Towton - Archaeology of a Medieval Battle’
Talk by Stuart Orme
550 years on, the story and finds from the bloodiest battle in English History.

‘The Suffragette Movement’
Talk by Don Chiswell
The personalities, events and achievements of the Women’s rights movement.

Wednesday 20 April at 7.30pm
‘Guide to the American Civil War’
Talk by Don Chiswell
150 years on, an introduction to the politics and warfare of America’s bloodiest conflict.

Wednesday 18 May at 7.30pm
‘The Life & Times of Leonardo Da Vinci’
Talk by Don Chiswell
The art, inventions and life of one of the greatest minds in history.

Wednesday 15 June at 7.30pm
‘The Vikings - Raiders or Traders?’
Talk by Don Chiswell
Horned helmets, longships and bloodshed…? The real story behind Viking culture.
