John Clare - Peterborough's peasant poet

We have a large collection of original manuscripts of the 19th century romantic poet John Clare (the Peasant Poet) who was born at Helpston in 1793 and who died in Northampton Asylum in 1864.

Personal belongings of the poet, who was buried in his native village, are on display and the manuscripts are available for study by prior arrangement with the museum. For more information about John Clare contact The John Clare Society.
