Modern hauntings

Ghosts do not always have to haunt old buildings - they can simply have occupied the site since before modern buildings.

modern hauntingsSome of these modern hauntings in Peterborough include:

RAF Westwood

The Westwood area of Peterborough now covered by housing estates was once an RAF base - RAF Peterborough. It was used as a training base for pilots throughout the 1930s, up until 1948. Accidents happened during training, including a serious crash in 1936 when four men were killed. It is said their ghosts still haunt the area today. Activity reported in the area includes:

Sounds of phantom aircraft passing overhead
Ghostly airmen have been seen across the area
Strange footsteps are heard where there used to be airfield buildings.

Other modern hauntings

Ghostly footsteps and the giggling of an invisible child are often heard at night in the Queensgate shopping centre.
At a modern office site on the south of the city, ghostly Roman soldiers have been seen...
Bretton residents have seen the spectre of an elderly man on the local park...
An old lady who died in the 1970s haunts a house in Netherton, visiting the children late at night...
A phantom 1920s lorry has been seen at Ferry Meadows - a relic of the Brick Industry?
