RAF Westwood
The Westwood area of Peterborough now covered
by housing estates was once an RAF base - RAF Peterborough. It was
used as a training base for pilots throughout the 1930s, up until
1948. Accidents happened during training, including a serious crash
in 1936 when four men were killed. It is said their ghosts still
haunt the area today. Activity reported in the area includes:
Sounds of phantom aircraft passing
overhead
Ghostly airmen have been seen across the area
Strange footsteps are heard where there used to be airfield
buildings.
Other modern hauntings
Ghostly footsteps and the giggling of an
invisible child are often heard at night in the Queensgate shopping
centre.
