People were able to see a fantastic
collection of objects from the Titanic, such as a pocket watch worn
by a passenger that stopped on the night and at the time of the
disaster, a teddy bear carried away from the ship, and some of the
exquisite china and decorations used on Titanic and her sister
ships, Olympic and Britannic. Also on display are props from
James Cameron's movie Titanic, including the costume worn by Kate
Winslet and the 'Heart of the Ocean' necklace.
This amazing exhibition belongs to one private
collector and is been touring the country. We were lucky
enough to have it here in Peterborough for three months.
Visitors could immerse themselves in the
opulent atmosphere, see how third class passengers lived, enjoy a
game of deck quoits, and experience what it must have been like to
have sailed on Titanic during her ill-fated maiden voyage. Sets
recreated a third class cabin, a part of the sunken wreck
today, and
even the prow of the ship where
you could pose in the fashion made immortal by the film to
have your photo taken!
Also told was the tragic story of the
real Peterborough family, Mr & Mrs Sage and their 9 children,
who sailed on the ship, and you could find out their fate
on the night of the disaster.
We also had an exciting schools programme to
accompany this exhibition.
