Framed! Art Treasures of Peterborough Museum Throughout the season
Enjoy well-loved gems of the Museum’s Collections. Come and see our portraits, sculptures and landscapes, from 16th century
works to respected contemporary artists. Items on display include views of the city by JMW Turner,and a view of Paris by Walter Sickert.

Tuesday 18 January - Museum Society Lecture at 7.30pm at the John Clare Theatre, Peterborough Central Library - Magna Carta, from Runnymede to Washington via Normandy and Canberra by Geoffrey Hindley. Find out why the Magna Carta remains as relevant today as when it was written in 1215.

Wednesday 19 January at 7.30pm - Museum History Talk at the John Clare Theatre, Peterborough Central Library, ‘Hannibal - more than just Elephants’ Talk by Don Chiswell. The true story of the famous general, Carthage, Romans and the crossing of the Alps. Tickets on the door - £5 adults, £3 concessions.

Thursday 20 January - Friends of the Museum Lunchtime Lecture at 12.30pm at the John Clare Theatre, Central Library - Stone Bits and Sun-Dials around Peterborough by Neil Mitchell

Katharine of Aragon Festival, 28 - 30 January

Katharine of Aragon, Henry VIII’s first wife, was buried at Peterborough Cathedral on 29 January 1536. The anniversary of this significant event in royal and Peterborough history is now marked each year with a series of commemorative events. The programme of events for 2011 has been organised by the Cathedral in association with Peterborough City Council and Vivacity, and includes:

Friday 28 January - Commemorative services at the Cathedral during the day attended by city dignitaries and local schoolchildren

Friday 28 January - An evening talk at the Cathedral by Stuart Orme from Peterborough Museum 'The Life and Times of Old Scarlett' at 7.30pm. Tickets: £5 adults, £3 concessions.

Saturday 29 January - Tudor Living History day at the Cathedral, with a chance to meet Katharine and Henry VIII, Tudor dancing and music, Tudor crafts, archery, surgery and much more! Free Admission.

Saturday 29 January - Concert by the highly acclaimed ensemble The Sixteen who are internationally recognised as one of the world’s greatest choral and period instrument orchestras. This will feature music Katharine would have heard at courts and also a piece reputedly written especially for her by Henry VIII.

Sunday 30 January - Tudor and Stuart Peterborough Guided walk around the city centre with a costumed guide at 2pm. Find out what the city would have been like during the Tudor period and at the time of the Civil War. Tickets: £5 adults, £3 concessions.
