Get Medieval at Peterborough Museum!
T
he time of
knights, castles, outlaws and fair maidens is brought to life with
an exciting new exhibition which allows people to experience the
sights, sounds and smells of Medieval England. This new
exhibition 'It's Medieval' opens at Peterborough Museum this
Saturday, 22 May and runs until 21 November. Admission is free of
charge.
The exhibition is built around a replica of a street from the
1400s. Visitors can explore recreated buildings to discover fun
facts about daily life, entertainment and beliefs, including a
tavern, shops and houses or take time for contemplation in the
chapel. They can go through the castle gateway to learn about
knights, life for the rich and royalty - but need to be careful in
case they get locked in the dungeon! Visitors can also try on
replica costume, play games and interactives, and get behind the
legends to find out what life was really like 600 years ago.
Stuart Orme, Museum Historic Interpretation Manager for
Vivacity, the new Peterborough Cultural and Leisure Trust said
'This is an exciting and ambitious hands-on exhibition for all the
family to enjoy. 'It's Medieval' uncovers what life was really like
in this fascinating period of our history, and with sights, sounds
and even smells brings it all vividly to life. It's particularly
appropriate to have this exhibition given the fact that
Peterborough's streets were laid out during the medieval period and
still has that original street plan.'
There is a programme of special events and activities to tie in
with the exhibition, and a great programme of fun family activities,
'Medieval Mayhem' will run throughout the summer
holidays, plus a Medieval Spectacular
Event at the Bank Holiday.
The exhibition 'It's Medieval' runs until 21 November. It is
open 10am - 5pm Tuesday - Saturday and 12noon - 4pm Sundays and
Bank Holiday Mondays. Admission is free of charge. For more
