Diary entries have been made as the project
has developed….
Monday 29 to 31 October
"Nine residents involved in the project
visited the museum over three mornings. This was really
beneficial experience. Each of the residents gained a better
understanding of the types of objects museums collect and museum
staff learned more about the items. One of the residents
identified a mystery object!"
Friday 2 November
"Today we recreated a tea room in the care
home's hobby room. The theme of this session was food.
On each table we placed a range of objects including cake stands,
china cups and saucers, photographs and even greaseproof
paper. We asked the residents various questions relating to
the objects such as what shops did you do your food shopping
in? Soon everyone agreed it was time for a cup of tea and a
nice piece of cake."
Thursday 8 November
"The hot topic today was childhood and
each of the residents had a chance to look at toys, books, clothing
and amongst other objects. Many of the residents recalled
fond memories of family and friends. One of the residents
sang some lovely nursery rhymes."
Thursday 15 November
"This week both staff and residents are
bringing in an object with a particular memory associated with
it. Each of us will talk about our memory and perhaps one
recollection will spark another in someone else. Some or all
of these objects will go on display with the memories at
Longueville Court Care Home and then at the museum. It is
hoped that this display will not only underline the value of
people's memories but also bring objects to life."
We are looking for a community group to work
with on a new reminiscence project. If you know of or are
part of a group that would be interested please contact us at the
museum.
