Become a museum volunteer

The museum is closed until March 2012 but volunteering continues at pop up museum events.  The museum depends not only on its paid staff but on a large group of enthusiastic volunteers to deliver its services. We are often looking for new volunteers to come and join our team for particular projects. We can offer training and experience in museum work in return for your assistance.

Once the museum reopens we will also offer places to a limited number of work experience students throughout the year.  We have volunteers in a number of key areas:

Collections - helping to document, store and interpret the Museum's collections

Geology - helping to conserve and reconstruct local fossil finds

Archaeology - helping to record finds onto the local Sites & Monuments Record (note: basic archaeological knowledge/experience is required for this role)

Education - helping to prepare and administrate schools sessions, helping with session delivery (note: a full CRB check may be required for this role) and much more

Visitor services - Meeting and greeting members of the public; working in the Museum shop; helping set up/take down exhibitions.
Events and marketing: helping to plan and run events; helping with marketing the museum, helping with guided tours or being a costumed interpreter for the museum.

If you are interested in volunteering and would like more information and an application form, please contact us on (01733) 864663 or e-mail museum@peterborough.gov.uk to find out about current opportunities.
