Council handyman service for vulnerable people

26 February 2010

Peterborough City Council offers a Care and Repair Handy Person Scheme to help elderly and vulnerable people living in the Peterborough area to continue living independently in their own homes.

The scheme, now in its fourth year, is free and is available to both home owners and tenants who are elderly or considered vulnerable. Residents are only asked to pay for the cost of materials used.

The scheme can help with a range of small jobs, such as putting up shelves or curtain rails, minor plumbing, electrical problems and smaller maintenance work.

The work is carried out by vetted contractors and the Care and Repair Improvement team aims to ensure any work is completed within two weeks of an initial call for help.

The scheme does not provide an emergency service but for more urgent repairs the team will attempt to arrange a visit more quickly.

Residents who want to use this service should call 01733 863860.
