Thirteen organisations from across the city
were rewarded for their efforts in encouraging staff to use

Travel plans are a package of measures that
aim to encourage employees to reconsider how they travel to work.
Alternative modes of transport, such as walking, cycling or using
public transport and car sharing are promoted, along with e-working
and working from home. Business travel is included, with measures
such as pool bikes, teleconferencing and videoconferencing being
promoted.
Nicola Francis, Peterborough City Council's
Travelchoice team manager, said: "The event was a real success with
more than 60 delegates attending the ceremony, in the SmartLife
Centre in Cambridge. In true Travelchoice spirit all delegates
attending from Peterborough were offered a free place on a coach in
order to reduce unnecessary car travel.”
Councillor Matthew Lee, Peterborough City
Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for environment capital,
said: "Travel plans offer benefits to employers and staff alike and
I am particularly pleased to see new companies starting to develop
travel plans. Reducing the number of cars on the road will also
lead to a more effective local economy, so we are looking forward
to working with even more businesses in the coming year.
“This initiative is just one of the ways
Peterborough is adding to its growing reputation as the UK’s
environment capital."
