Familiar faces from television talent contests
will add some festive sparkle to this year's city centre Christmas
lights switch-on event on Saturday 20 November 2010.
A packed programme of entertainment promises
to keep the crowds enthralled from 2pm until the big switch-on at
6pm. Stars of the national show 'Gleemania' - a tribute to the
hugely popular television show - will join Mayor of Peterborough
councillor Keith Sharp and Father Christmas on stage to switch the
lights on. Gleemania includes former X Factor finalists Rikki Loney
and Nikitta Angus and Britain's Got Talent finalist Shaun
The event starts at 2pm with a fashion show
organised by event sponsors Westgate department store. This will be
followed by performances from local acts including covers band The
Replicas and solo singers Wendy, Jack and Katrina. Latino Sound,
who wowed the crowds at World Music Day, will then take to the
stage at 4.30pm.
The entertainment will be rounded-off at about
5.30pm with performances from the shows 'Wizard of Oz', ‘Joseph and
the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ and 'Gleemania', which are set
to run at the re-launched Broadway Theatre when it opens next year.
The event will end with fireworks, weather permitting.

Sarah-Jane Honeywell as Glinda and Tracey Beaker's Ben Hanson as
Scarecrow. 'Gleemania' includes stars from X Factor, Britain's Got
Talent, Pop Idol, Pop Stars, Grease is the Word and Last Choir
The campaign for a war memorial for
Peterborough will also launch at the event with a street collection
to start the fundraising ball rolling.
Councillor Gavin Elsey, Peterborough City
Council's cabinet member for business engagement, said: "This
year's event includes entertainment for all the family which I hope
will encourage lots of people into the city centre. As well as
showcasing local talent, we are delighted that we have been able to
secure performances from some famous faces which people are sure to
recognise. This will add some real festive sparkle to

Broadway Theatre will reopen in February 2011 and its first season
of shows will be announced on Friday 19 November. We are delighted
that members of the cast from The Wizard of Oz (including Ben
Hanson and Sarah-Jane Honeywell), Gleemania (including Andy Scott
Lee and Anthony Kavanagh) and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor
Dreamcoat, who all form part of the new season of shows, will be
performing at Peterborough’s Christmas light switch-on event."
