Severe weather could delay bin collections

29 November 2010

Freezing overnight conditions could cause delays for Peterborough City Council crews emptying household refuse and recycling bins tomorrow (Tuesday 30 November 2010).

Michael Robb from Peterborough City Services said: “Tuesday collections primarily focus on villages and rural areas where snowfall and frost may be more severe and persistent.

“Naturally, our teams will make every effort to maintain their normal schedule of collections but severe frosts can cause treacherous conditions for both the workers and their freighter lorries. Once a 26-tonne freighter starts to slide on ice there is very little that will stop it, so drivers have to be ultra-cautious.

“Householders should put their bins out as normal and our teams will empty them just as soon as possible.”
