Young people who have great ideas which could make life better
for them and other young people in Peterborough have just over a
week remaining to make their bid for funding from the youth capital
funding pot.
Successful applicants will then be asked to
present their ideas to Youth Bank members who will form the panel
of judges at the Dragons' Den-style event at the Town Hall, Bridge
Street, Peterborough, on Thursday 16 September 2010 between 6pm to
9pm.
Young people can make bids of up to £30,000.
Applications should include details of the size of the bid, how it
will benefit young people in the community and how the project will
be realised.
Councillor Gavin Elsey, cabinet member for
business engagement, will be advising the young dragons at the
event.
Councillor Elsey said: "The Youth Bank is all
about young people having a real say on how money is spent on
improving life for them in the city. I know there are lots of young
people in the city who have some excellent ideas so now is their
chance to turn those ideas into reality.
"We should be encouraging these young
entrepreneurs of the future and I'm looking forward to hearing some
of the ideas our young people have and to helping the young dragons
decide where the money would be best spent."
Javed Ahmed, south locality manager for
Peterborough City Council's 8 to 19 service, said: "The Youth Bank
gives young people an opportunity to make their dreams a reality by
enabling them to secure funds to put their ideas into action.
Projects which have been awarded funding include Stanground skate
park and a street youth bus which tours the city offering young
people help with CV writing and job hunting and to give them a
space to chill out and listen to music.
"Anyone aged 13 to 19, or up to the age
of 25 with additional needs, can apply for Peterborough Youth Bank
grants. I hope to see lots of exciting bids come in."
Peterborough Youth Bank is an innovative
grant-making initiative run by young people for young people which
provides grants to fund young people's good ideas to benefit their
