New gold buses launched on Peterborough's X4 route

23 November 2011.

Passengers using Peterborough's X4 bus route will be riding in style from now on in new gold buses introduced by Stagecoach which offer leather seats and free WiFi.

Thirteen new buses will serve route X4, which runs between Peterborough and Milton Keynes via Oundle, Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and Northampton. The buses will have leather seats, free WiFi, an environmentally friendly engine, specially trained drivers in a new uniform and a unique metallic paint livery.

Councillor Peter Hiller, Cabinet Member for Housing, Neighbourhoods and Planning, said: "These new buses look fantastic and I am delighted that our residents will be able to benefit from them. It is also pleasing to see that they are fitted with environmentally friendly engines which will pump out less toxic pollution than regular engines.

"Peterborough is one of very few councils, if not the only council, that has increased its funding for bus services, so I am delighted to see that Stagecoach is also investing in our public transport.

"As a city with environment capital aspirations it is important that we encourage people to use more sustainable forms of transport, such as buses, and these new buses should encourage more people to do so."

Steve Burd, Managing Director at Stagecoach Midlands, said: “At a time when fuel prices are continually rising and we each need to do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint, these improvements will make a real difference and go a long way to encouraging more people to choose the bus in Peterborough. It is Stagecoach’s goal to continually invest in routes which are well used and popular, and we aim to give all of our valued customers the very best level of affordable, reliable, environmentally friendly, safe bus travel."
