Councillor Peter Hiller, Cabinet Member for
Housing, Neighbourhoods and Planning, said: "These new buses look
fantastic and I am delighted that our residents will be able to
benefit from them. It is also pleasing to see that they are fitted
with environmentally friendly engines which will pump out less
toxic pollution than regular engines.
"Peterborough is one of very few councils, if
not the only council, that has increased its funding for bus
services, so I am delighted to see that Stagecoach is also
investing in our public transport.
"As a city with environment capital
aspirations it is important that we encourage people to use more
sustainable forms of transport, such as buses, and these new buses
should encourage more people to do so."
Steve Burd, Managing Director at Stagecoach
Midlands, said: “At a time when fuel prices are continually rising
and we each need to do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint,
these improvements will make a real difference and go a long way to
encouraging more people to choose the bus in Peterborough. It is
Stagecoach’s goal to continually invest in routes which are well
used and popular, and we aim to give all of our valued customers
the very best level of affordable, reliable, environmentally
friendly, safe bus travel."
