City Council launches awards to recognise building excellence

7 August 2012.

UPDATE: 10/09/2012 - Less than three weeks left to submit entries for the Peterborough Design and Construction Awards.

Have you been involved in a building design or construction project which is innovative or leads the way in sustainable development?

Peterborough City Council is launching its second Peterborough Design and Construction Awards which recognise and celebrate quality design and building excellence within the city. The first of these awards was held in 2010 and this year some new categories are being introduced.

The design categories are:

  • Best Residential - Single House
  • Best Residential - Multiple Dwellings
  • Best Commercial/Community Development
  • Best Greenspace/Community Project
  • Building conservation Award

The building control construction categories are:

  • Best Non-residential Development
  • Best Residential Conversion or Extension
  • Best Residential - Single House/Multiple dwellings
  • Technical Innovation and Sustainable Construction (includes Inclusive Design)

The infrastructure awards categories are:

  • Best Highway Infrastructure Project
  • Best Residential Estate Project

To be eligible, a project must have been completed between 1 June 2011 and 23 September 2012. Anyone involved can make an entry - the architect that helped develop the idea, the contractor, the customer or anyone else that played a part in the development or project.

The winners of the construction categories will be entered into the relevant category of the 2013 LABC East Anglia Regional Awards unless the council is notified accordingly.

Entries are now open and can be made via Peterborough Development and Environment Awards 2012.

The closing date for entries is Friday 28 September 2012.

Councillor Peter Hiller, Cabinet Member for Housing, Neighbourhoods and Planning for Peterborough City Council, said: "These awards provide a great platform for residents and businesses to demonstrate their excellent work. It offers the opportunity to create and display attractive and high quality places for people to live and work in the city. It is also a chance to showcase the innovation in sustainable design and construction which goes into current building projects.”

Simon Machen, Head of Planning Services for Peterborough City Council, said: "We are looking for anyone who has been involved in the planning or construction of a building project which has been completed since June 2011 to enter and tell the city about their successes. There is rarely the opportunity to recognise and give credit to the extensive range of talent in this industry so awards like these are really encouraging.”

Ends.
