Cathedral Square fountains turned off for maintenance

30 July 2012

Fountains in Cathedral Square were turned off on Friday due to a fault with the filtration pump.

A regular maintenance check revealed the pump requires attention to enable the fountains to continue to operate effectively. Unfortunately, the decision to turn the fountains off is necessary to undertake this essential maintenance.

Technicians will commence work on the pump on Tuesday (31 July) and the maintenance work is expected to be completed on the Friday (3 August) afternoon. Providing the work goes to schedule, the fountains will be operational again on Saturday.

Annette Joyce, Head of Commercial Operations at Peterborough City Council, said: "The pump that drives the fountains has a fault and by carrying out maintenance now, we will be able to ensure the longevity of the fountains as an attraction for people to enjoy for the rest of the summer. I am pushing for the work to be completed as soon as possible so that residents and visitors to our city will not have to wait too long before the fountains are back in full flow."

The decision to turn the fountains off is not connected to the closure of Bretton Water Park..
