Jubilee weekend refuse and recycling bin collections to remain the same

30 May 2012

There are no changes to bin collections during the week commencing Monday 4th June. Bins will be collected as usual and residents are requested to present their bins by 6.45am on the day of their collection.

During the weeks commencing Monday the 4th and 11th of June additional recycling will be collected alongside the regular green bin collections. The extra recycling must be presented in clear bags and placed next to bins. The usual recycling items: plastic bottles, tins, cans, glass bottles and jars, cardboard, paper and cartons will be accepted.

If you are celebrating this Jubilee bank holiday with a street party or a barbeque, do not let food or money go to waste. There are plenty of tips available from Love Food Hate Waste, including planning food amounts for parties and leftovers recipes. Do not forget to recycle your drinks cans and bottles! Your jubilee decorations can also have another life – reuse them when the Olympics torch comes to Peterborough, during the Olympics or Euro 2012.

Residents and visitors are also advised to make the best use of recycling street bins when out and about. Kirsty Martin, Communications manager at Enterprise Peterborough said: ‘There are recycling facilities around the city and neighbourhoods across Peterborough, so once you have enjoyed your drink, you can recycle the container, whether it is a can, a carton, a plastic or glass bottle, using our recycle-on-the-go bins.’

If you are sorting your wardrobe out this bank holiday, you can now book a free door step collection of your unwanted textiles, books, small electrical goods.

Ends.
