NEWS/PHOTOCALLMONDAY 30 JUNE, 10AM CHAUCER ROAD, NEW ENGLAND, PETERBOROUGHHOME ZONE MAKES GOOD PROGRESSPeterborough MP Helen Clark will be visiting the Chaucer Road area of New England at on Monday 30 June, at 10am to look at progress so far on Peterborough's Home Zone. Accompanying her on this brief tour will be Mark Stevens, the city council's Head of Transport and Engineering, and the two local Ward Councillors, Deputy Mayor Councillor Charles Swift and Councillor Keith Sharp. Construction work on the Home Zone scheme - the largest in the country - is progressing well and the area is beginning to be significantly transformed. A Home Zone is a street or group of streets that residents have decided that cyclists and pedestrians - particularly children - have priority, not fast moving cars. Mark Stevens, Transport and Engineering for the city council, said, "Local residents seem happy with how their local environment is changing. The New England Home Zone is one of only two of the nine original pilot Home Zone schemes to receive Department for Transport "Home Zone Challenge" funding. Representatives of the Department for Transport recently visited the works and were both pleased and impressed with how the work is proceeding." End.
